Whenever my birthday comes around the corner, I start to think about ways to spice up my special day. Being a foodie and a self-proclaimed grandma, my birthday traditions often revolve around discovering new foods. Considering I view myself as a true cookie connoisseur, I took on the hard challenge of reviewing some Dutch cookie webshops that I had never ordered from before. My goal? To find a new favourite that brings a unique twist to classic treats and will be perfect for your next cookie delivery.

I ordered from three different webshops, judging them on delivery, packaging, variety, and of course, the quality of the cookies. In this blog post, I will review the cookies from Humble and Crumble, Het Koekemannetje, and Overdoughsed, so you’ll know exactly where and what to order for your next birthday (or if you just want to indulge in deliciousness).

Humble and Crumble Cookie Review: Indulgent, American-Style Treats

American style Red Velvet cookie from Humble and Crumble.

Are you ready for some cookies? The first webshop that I ordered from is the Dutch cookie brand Humble and Crumble. At Humble and Crumble they bake fresh cookies every day, claiming to only use the best ingredients. Their selling point is that they only start baking once you place your order, that way they can maintain their no-waste policy.

Delivery

Humble and Crumble offers an excellent delivery service. They process orders from Tuesday to Friday, with the goal of dispatching them within two business days. Shipping is handled by PostNL at a cost of €6.95, but orders over €45 qualify for free delivery. Once dispatched, the cookies are packaged airtight and will remain fresh for up to two weeks, so even if there's a delivery delay (we have all been there), your cookies will stay in perfect condition.

In my case, the process was smooth and efficient. I placed my order on September 2nd, received a notification the next day that the cookies were freshly baked and ready for dispatch, and my package arrived on September 4th—just in time for my birthday!

Packaging

When receiving my package from Humble and Crumble I got super excited. Their packaging is colourful and expressive. With their eye-catching packaging this box was fun to receive and would therefore also make a cute gift if you want to send someone their cookies.

 The cookies

Humble and Crumble make big, American style, indulgent cookies. Almost all of them have a chocolate coating and are deliciously filled. When you warm the cookies up (they come with a folder of instructions) the filling will melt and the cookies will probably be even more delicious. I say probably because I didn’t warm any of the cookies up. Partly because I was feeling slightly lazy, and partly to keep the experience consistent with how I’ve rated other cookie brands. Another disclosure while I’m at it: It’s worth noting that none of the cookies in this blog post are budget-friendly. At Humble and Crumble, you pay between four and six euros for their cookies, but keep in mind that they are freshly baked and enormous.

When choosing your options at Humble and Crumble, the selection is just right—not overwhelming. They offer about ten to fifteen traditional cookie varieties, so you can find something delicious without feeling lost in too many choices. Besides their traditional cookies they also have treats they call Snaps. Snaps are described on their website as flat cookies, layered with a generous filling and finished with a rich chocolate coating. Sounds amazing, right? The fixed menu at Humble and Crumble consists of birthday cake, Oreo, red velvet, triple chocolate, and Kinder Bueno flavours. Since I am humbled with a nut allergy, any Bueno, Nutella or pistache flavours were sadly not able to be tested.

For my review I picked some classic flavours from their fixed menu. I will not sit here and pretend to be some tough critic. When something has sugar in it, most of the time you will find me in an excellent mood. After tasting each of the cookies I ordered, I came to the conclusion that they were all amazing. The texture of the cookies is impressively consistent—crispy on the outside and irresistibly soft in the centre, creating a perfect balance. All of the cookies are generously filled, which leaves you feeling stuffed after just a couple bites. These cookies were definitely the sweetest and most indulgent I’ve tried. If you are someone who wants their desserts not too sweet, this shop might not be for you.

Final Thoughts

When it comes to my final thoughts I would describe the cookies as indulgent, incredibly sweet, and reminiscent of American-style desserts. If that’s your kind of treat, you’re in for a real delight, because these cookies definitely deliver on taste. I recommend trying their Snap cookies, since they offer a bit more of an unique experience. The whole encounter from the packaging to their cookies really gives of the feeling everything is done with much love and care. The thoughtful packaging makes sure these cookies would make for a great gift to surprise someone with. Het Koekemannetje Review: Classic Dutch Cookies Worth Tasting

Pink box filled with cookies from Het koekemannetje. Large round cookies with chocolate on them.

Het Koekemannetje is a well-known Dutch cookie brand with both a physical store and a webshop. Since 2019, they’ve been located in Amsterdam’s iconic Negen Straatjes, where they serve their delicious cookies. I’ll admit, I’ve tried their cookies before when I lived in Amsterdam a few years ago. But with their recent surge in popularity on TikTok and Instagram, I thought it was time to give them another go—this time testing out their webshop.

Delivery

Unlike Humble and Crumble, Het Koekemannetje doesn’t offer individual cookie selection. Instead, you start by choosing either a Cookie Jar or a Cookie Box. The cookie jar, a metal container with their logo, comes in ten or twelve cookies. If you don’t need a whole jar, you can pick a cookie box. The box, which holds ten cookies, costs €20.95, making it a bit more affordable compared to the jar.

Het Koekemannetje is the largest company among the webshops I tried, and their delivery options are the most flexible. You can pick the date you want your cookies to be sent in their calendar, and usually your package will be delivered the day after. Shipping is handled by DHL for €5.95. Unlike the other brands, Het Koekemannetje’s cookies are not packaged in plastic, so it’s best to enjoy them within five days to ensure maximum freshness. Just like with Humble and Crumble, my delivery went smoothly. I chose September 4th as my shipping date, and my cookies arrived the next day without any issues.

Packaging

After the playful packaging from the previous webshop, I found Het Koekemannetje’s outer packaging a bit underwhelming. However, the inside box features their signature pink color, giving it a cute and recognizable touch.

The cookies

Het Koekemannetje is famous for its simple yet delicious classic cookies. Their regular offerings include milk chocolate, white chocolate, and dark chocolate versions, along with seasonal specials that change from time to time. When I ordered their specials were brownie, white chocolate macadamia and white chocolate raspberry.

From their classic cookies, I ordered a couple of milk and white chocolate cookies, and from their specials, the brownie and white chocolate raspberry versions. What can I say? They’re fantastic. The cookies are super soft, slightly chewy, and made with high-quality chocolate that melts in your mouth. If you’re craving classic, straightforward, but incredibly delicious cookies, Het Koekemannetje is definitely the place to go. Compared to Humble and Crumble, these cookies are less sweet and overall feel a little bit less indulgent.

Final Thoughts

Compared to Humble and Crumble, these cookies suited my taste a bit more. They’re simple, yet absolutely delicious. The texture is incredibly soft, and I can easily imagine they’d taste even better when warmed up. By sticking to a few core flavours, Het Koekemannetje gives the impression of a reliable, consistent brand. The packaging is fairly simple, making it less ideal for a gift if you’re looking to surprise someone. Overdoughsed Review: Unique, Flavorful Cookies You Need to Try

Assorted cookies in a carton-colored box from Overdoughsed

Of all the webshops I tested for this blog post, Overdoughsed is the smallest. Starting in Suriname, they’re now expanding into more countries, and I highly recommend checking out their story. Making New York- style cookies they describe their treats as crispy-on-the-outside and gooey-on-the-inside. The description alone sounded amazing, so I was really excited to give them a try.

Delivery

The ordering experience at Overdoughsed is very easy and convenient. When visiting the website, you can pick a box of three, six or twelve cookies. After that you can pick the different flavours you want in your box. Once you've made your choice, all you have to do is enter your payment details and choose the shipping option that works best for you. Overdoughsed offers the least flexible delivery option of the three, shipping orders only on Wednesdays. If you want your cookies on a special day, this is something to keep in mind. Price wise, Overdoughsed isn’t cheap either. A box of six cookies costs €29.60, and with an additional €6 for shipping via PostNL, it does add up to a hefty price for just six cookies. The cookies are packaged airtight and can be stored for up to a week.

Packaging

I can only describe the packaging of Overdoughsed as aesthetically pleasing. The box is simple, but everything feels very thought out. It must be said that the box did arrive with a plastic bag around it, so keep this in mind if you want to send it to someone as a gift. I have to give them credit, as they were the only webshop to include stickers on each cookie, clearly indicating the flavors. As an organizing freak this was very much appreciated. Just like Humble and Crumble, everything felt packaged with much love and care, which made it a great package to receive.

The cookies

When it comes to cookie variety, I found Overdoughsed to offer the most intriguing flavors. Their selection includes unique options like pumpkin spice cheesecake, Biscoff white chocolate, and Nutella-filled churro. To state my humble opinion, their cookies are amazing! Not too sweet, and as described, crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside. I do have to say the different flavours had very different consistencies. The cream cheese-filled Red Velvet and Pumpkin Spice Cheesecake were extremely soft, almost falling apart, with little crispness. The Biscoff white chocolate on the other hand was not that soft on the inside. Warming the cookies could help balance these inconsistencies, so it’s worth trying if you order. Overdoughsed’s classic chocolate chip cookie easily ranks in my top five best chocolate chip cookies of all time. If you are curious about their cookies, you can order on their website.

Best Dutch Cookie Webshops: Final Verdict and Top Picks

To wrap up, I’m awarding trophies in four categories: best delivery, best packaging, best variety, and best quality.

Best Delivery was a tough call because all the webshops fulfilled their promises. However, Het Koekemannetje takes the prize for best flexibility, which makes sense given their status as the largest company.

Best Packaging goes to Humble and Crumble. Their delivery box is bright and playful, making the unboxing experience delightful from the moment it arrives. This packaging also makes them a top choice for gift-giving and surprising someone special.

Best Variety is awarded to Overdoughsed. Their range of flavors was the most exciting, and as someone with a nut allergy, I appreciated how many of their options were safe for me to enjoy.

Finally, for Best Quality, I’d choose Het Koekemannetje. Their cookies stood out for their exceptional quality, making them the overall winner of this review. Considering the value for money, these are the cookies I would be most likely to order again. They’re consistently amazing—solid, soft, and delicious.
